Egypt's first democratically-elected President, taking office 1 July 2012. One of the leaders of the protests that eventually toppled Egypt's 30-year Hosni Mubarak dictatorship, he campaigned promising to institute Islamic law. He was overthrown by the military on 3 July 2013.
