After a failed revolt in Puerto Rico in late October, in which both his brother and sister participated, Torresola and Oscar Collazo were inspired to their plot to assassinate President Harry S. Truman. The pair stormed the temporary presidential residence at Blair House on 1 November 1950; Torresola shot two guards during the attempt, killing one, but was himself shot and killed during the attempt.
