He was the founding editor of Slate, a long-time contributing writer at Time, co-host "from the left" on CNN's Crossfire for six years, twice editor of The New Republic magazine, and a former editor of Harpers and the Washington Monthly. In December 2001 Kinsley announced that he had Parkinson's disease and subsequently stepped down from Slate, but in early 2004 he accepted an editorial position at the Los Angeles Times, and he has since bounced from The Atlantic to Politico.
