Founded 1957 as the Dallas Civic Opera.

Subsequently, The Dallas Opera has presented many international stars in their American debuts, including Dame Joan Sutherland, Montserrat Caballé, Jon Vickers and Plácido Domingo, as well as designer/director Franco Zeffirelli."
