Margaret Lescher (widow of Dean) sold the newspaper's holding company to Knight-Ridder on 29 August 1995, for $360M.

Another media conglomerate, the McClatchy Company, purchased Knight-Ridder in 2006. This purchase required that a dozen newpapers, including the Times, be sold off.

Acquired by MediaNews Group on 2 August 2006.
