Serving northwest Indiana, it was formerly the Gary Post-Tribune.

Founded 1921 by the merger of The Gary Weekly with the Gary Evening Post. It was sold in 1966 to Northwest Publications, which became part of Knight-Ridder in 1974. The newspaper was sold to American Publishing in 1998, which is now known as the Sun-Times Media Group.
