NEWSPAPER

Descended from the Democratic Statesman, a triweekly publication begun in July 1871, the Austin American-Statesman was first published in November 1973 after the Austin American morning newspaper and the Austin Statesman afternoon newspaper, both owned by Newspapers Incorporated, were combined. In 1976, the paper was purchased by Cox Newspapers, a division of Cox Enterprises.
