Seita, a 14-year-old boy and Setsuko, his 4-year-old sister suffer their mother's death in the firebombing of Kobe, Japan in the waning days of World War II. They move in with their aunt, whose hospitality decreases as food becomes scarce. Brother and sister leave and their circumstances deteriorate further. Powerful, beautiful and heartbreaking animated film from Studio Ghibli.
