ABSTRACT
The scene: Germany, deep in the throes of World War II and ruled with an iron fist by Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime. Liesel, a young woman sent to live with foster parents Hans and Rosa Hubermann, finds herself haunted by constant memories concerning her mother and dead brother. Struggling with the restrictions on personal freedom imposed by the incumbent fascist government, Liesel discovers a passion for reading and writing after her curiosity is piqued by a copy of The Grave Digger's Handbook one night, learning to love books even as the Nazis work to suppress their continued existence.
