ABSTRACT
Criminal-turned-criminologist Eugène François Vidocq engages in a protracted fight with a long-standing foe named "the Alchemist"; he loses, falling to his presumed death in a fiery pit. Viewers follow biographer Etienne Boisset as he investigates the curious case of the Alchemist's identity, uncovering shocking truths about the nefarious character's apparent eternal youth as he discovers Vidocq's whereabouts and sets up a bizarre final twist.
