Maverick Egyptologist Daniel Jackson is hired to investigate a large artifact kept in an underground military bunker, which turns out to be a hyperspace portal connecting earth to distant planets. He and a team led by Col. Jack O'Neil travel to a kingdom ruled by the ancient god Ra, who intends to send an extremely powerful bomb back to Earth via the portal. Film has the feel of a 1930s serial blended with the lunatic ideas of Erich von Däniken. Received a Hugo nomination for Best Dramatic Presentation. Spawned three television series.
