ABSTRACT
Curtis LaForche, a father and husband living a heretofore peaceful life with his family in north-central Ohio, finds himself plagued by traumatizing dreams of an apocalyptic event bringing "rain like motor oil" and a variety of societal ills. Consumed by his premonitions, Curtis -- who reveals in a counseling session that his mother suffers from paranoid schizophrenia -- grows possessed with a desire to build a shelter in preparation for Doomsday, threatening to tear his loving family and tight-knit community apart in the process.
