An orphan is cheated out of his inheritance by a greedy uncle, and his uncle's daughter, Charlotte, whom he loves, is being forced into a marriage more designed to benefit the uncle. Belmondo commits a petulant act of revenge by stealing a fortune in jewelry from his cousin's fiancé. By this he discovers thievery is his calling in life, and quickly rises to the top of the profession.
