ABSTRACT
Mister, a thirteen-year old boy struggling through a life in inner-city Brooklyn, is left to fend for himself after embattled mother Gloria is apprehended by the police. Together with similarly-fated nine-year old Pete, the pair must rely on their wits and friendship to survive in unforgiving territory as the sweltering summer heat and child protective services do their best to wear them down.
