ABSTRACT
Luke Glanton, a traveling motorcycle stuntman, learns through his ex-lover that he is the father of her child. Deciding to start robbing banks as a way of providing for his offspring, he is ultimately caught and killed by police officer Avery Cross, who must contend with a crooked police department and the revelation of a startling secret as he becomes a local hero and the eventual Attorney General of New York.
