Semi-biographical drama depicts a fictionalized account of the darkest days of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin's regime through the eyes of his personal physician.
Nicholas Garrigan, a fresh-faced, somewhat naive Scottish doctor, meets new Ugandan president Idi Amin after arriving in the blighted African nation to assist in a hard-up hospital, taking a job with the strongman's national health department after a long conversation about Scottish culture and his vision for his country. The Last King of Scotland follows Garrigan as he witnesses Amin's chaotic descent into paranoia and mental illness in his capacity as his personal physician, ultimately forced to make a decision with potentially terrible consequences after the brutal dictator refuses to release him from his employment.
