In 2022 corporate-controlled America, crime and unemployment are near nonexistent, because annually all laws are suspended for a 12 hour period for society to make, umm, adjustments. If you buy into that backstory, the film follows a family of four who allows a stranger into their locked compound moments before the Purge starts, which may not have been the wisest decision.
