REVIEWS Review by Thomas M Basch, MD (posted on 20-Sep-2005) This film, adapted from the book of the same name, is breathtaking. It is perhaps the most brutal, beautiful, and truthful representation of Indian/European interaction in Canada's early colonial period (1600's) that I have ever seen. The film neither glorifies nor vilifies. Instead, it presents the misunderstanding and miscommunication that plagued early Indian/European interaction, showing graphically the nobility as well as the cruelty manifested by both populations. I cannot recommend this movie, and the book as well, more highly.
