He meets Stephanie; they become dance partners, enter a contest, and fall in love. Excellent soundtrack featuring the Bee Gees and The Trammps. John Travolta received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, but more importantly, turned him into a permanent cultural icon. Spawned a much-inferior sequel, Staying Alive (1983).
