A successful New York playwright is hired to write a Hollywood "B" wrestling movie, but being a true artist at heart, only desires to write meaningful stories for the "common man." He is unable to see the common man just wants to watch a formulaic wrestling movie; suffering writer's block, he watches his wallpaper peel. Not a film for common men. Received Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor, Best Set Decoration and Best Costume Design. Won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
