ABSTRACT
Eli, a nomad with a knack for defending himself against bandits and aggressive wildlife in a post-apocalyptic America three decades removed from a devastating nuclear war, takes comfort in his possession of a one-of-a-kind book that he keeps closely guarded and on his person at all times. When Eli declines overtures from a mobster in a village he happens upon to join the vicious man's gang, he suddenly finds himself on the run, putting all of his skills to the test to protect his own existence as well as that of the book -- later revealed to be a Bible -- he carries.
