A Farewell to Arms (14-Dec-1957)

Director: Charles Vidor Writer: Ben Hecht From novel: A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway From a play by: Laurence Stallings Music by: Mario Nascimbene Keywords: Romantic Drama, WWI An American serves as a volunteer ambulance driver in the Italian Army during WWI. He has an affair with a British nurse, but then faces accusations of being a German spy. He and his amour flee the country for Switzerland. Remake of the far superior A Farewell to Arms (1932). Lavish production, but dull. Hemingway was not at all happy with the results here, most particularly with the age of the female lead.
