ABSTRACT Remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). Keanu Reeves features in this big-budget box-office flop remake of the Robert Wise sci-fi classic of the same name, following Klaatu, an alien hailing from a planet far beyond the reaches of our solar system whose Earthly arrival in the name of peace alongside a giant robot is met with fear and skepticism. Caught amidst the ensuing hysteria is Helen Benson, a scientist placed under protective custody by the American government as an emergency measure who attempts to divine Klaatu's intentions as part of a bid to prevent a potentially disastrous end to the ordeal.
