A young girl falls victim to a great white shark near the small Atlantic town of Amity. Chief Martin Brody, played by Roy Scheider in his signature role, urges the beaches be closed but he is overruled by the town's selectmen, fearing it would scare off the tourist trade. Then a young boy falls victim. Brody, oceanographer Matt Hooper, and fisherman Quint set off to find and kill the great white. The first summer blockbuster.
