ABSTRACT
VA hospital clerk Harvey Pekar is a curious man desiring something more out of his world, entertaining himself through his monotonous existence by talking to co-workers about various issues in life and taking refuge in his hobbies and love of thrifting. A chance encounter with would-be underground comic sensation Robert Crumb at a Cleveland-area garage sale drives Harvey to enter the world for himself, starting down a road that would lead to the creation of renowned underground comic American Splendor. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
