Director: Jason Bateman Writer: Andrew Dodge Keywords: Comedy A middle-aged man bitter over his childhood spelling bee loss exploits a loophole to return to competition as an adult.
ABSTRACT Jason Bateman's directorial debut finds him starring in this offbeat subversive comedy as Guy Trilby, a middle-aged man full of lingering resentment towards The Golden Quill's national spelling bee for a childhood loss who exploits a loophole in the present day to return to competition. Steamrolling hapless young children and fuming judges with his superior spelling skills, Guy forms an odd friendship with ten-year old Chaitanya, a hard-nosed introvert unmoved by the ruthless competitive drive reporter Jenny Widgeon attempts to decode.
