ABSTRACT
The mid-twentieth century French countryside plays host to Fond de l'Etang, a boarding school designed to shape unruly and damaged boys into respectable young men through a harsh method of administration referred to as "action-reaction". The school welcomes progressive music teacher M. Clement Mathieu as its new supervisor on January 15, 1949, paving the way for a showdown between the idealistic incoming administrator and the bitter old guard when he attempts to reform the boys' behavior through love and the power of music.
