The courtship of a young cowboy and a pretty farm girl is interrupted by the presence of an interloping ranch hand. Adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's smash Broadway play which ran for 2,212 performances in 1943-48. Won Oscars for Best Musical Score and Best Sound Recording; received additional nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Editing. Entered 2007 into the National Film Registry. Shot simultaneously in Todd AO and in CinemaScope, so really two versions exist.
