ABSTRACT
The Sun begins to dim unexpectedly (and several billion years ahead of schedule) in 2057, bringing humanity face to face with an all-but-certain mass extinction as Earth starts to freeze over. A mission to stave off oblivion by sending a manned spacecraft, named Icarus, to "reignite" our Sun with a nuclear bomb is a failure, forcing a new mission -- aptly titled Icarus II -- out to finish the job before time runs out. Sunshine follows the struggles of a crew of astronauts working towards a goal with no guarantee of safety or success as the fate of the only known carrier of life in the universe hangs in the balance.
