Biopic based on the memoir of Maya Angelou's early childhood in the South, living with her grandmother after the divorce of her parents. At age seven, Angelou was victim of a rape and did not speak at all for five years. While Caged Bird Sings is an exceptional work of literature, this film adaptation, while still inspirational, suffers from low production values and substandard acting.
