Gene Hackman plays Johnny Gallagher, a Green Beret escorting political prisoner Thomas Boyette from West Berlin to the United States. Boyette escapes and then Gallagher finds himself accused of a murder and his prisoner actually part of much larger conspiracy to set him up as a patsy for the assassination of the U.S. President. Complicated but well-executed political thriller, with the unfortunate bad timing of being produced just before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
