ABSTRACT
Ken Carter, product of the beleaguered streets of Richmond, California and present-day proprietor of a bustling sporting-goods enterprise, accepts an offer to return home to coach his old high school's basketball team. Frustrated with the squad's lack of academic and athletic discipline, Coach Carter implements a tough-but-fair style of leadership, guiding his boys to unparalleled success in short order; when the team begins to slack on their schoolwork, however, Coach places his entire team on probation until definitive signs of improvement appear, willing to draw the ire of an entire city to teach his team that a quality education, no matter how incredible one's athletic ability, must be valued above all else.
