A Shot in the Dark (23-Jun-1964)

Director: Blake Edwards

Writers: Blake Edwards; William Peter Blatty

From a play by: Harry Kurnitz; Marcel Achard

Music: Henry Mancini

Producer: Blake Edwards

Keywords: Crime/Comedy, Pink Panther

A man has been murdered at a country house; all evidence points to the maid Maria, who was literally found with a smoking gun in her hand over the dead body. Inspector Clouseau insists she is innocent, for such a beautiful woman could not commit such a heinous act. Further murders pile up, evidence consistently pointing to Maria; Clouseau's theories drive his boss, Commissioner Dreyfus, insane. Introduces manservant Cato, with orders to attack whenever Clouseau least expects it. Second and best in the Pink Panther oeuvre.
