ABSTRACT
Walter Sparrow, a dogcatcher with an unremarkable life, picks up a call from wife Agatha one day waxing poetic about a murder-mystery novel fixated with numerology surrounding the number "23". Walter is instantly taken by the book and its contents, developing a fascination growing into an obsession with the storied number and its connections to his day-to-day life that ultimately sees him embarking on a dangerous quest to track down the text's author when he comes to see it as a nonfiction account of his own existence.
