ABSTRACT
Katherine Ann Watson, an art history professor ahead of the curve in traditionalist 1950s America, accepts a teaching position at the all-female Wellesley College in Massachusetts. Wellesley's prevailing culture presents an ideological challenge for the proto-feminist Katherine Ann, as she must work to balance her love of art with a desire to effect positive change in a student body more concerned with finding the right "suitor" to marry than genuine personal betterment.
