REVIEWS

Review by anonymous (posted on 2-May-2005)

As a rule I refrain from watching movies whose books I have read first and loved, because as a rule the movies hardly ever do them justice and/or it is almost unrecognizable after all the re-writes. In the case of RITA however I watched it because I know the author and am good friends with his sister. The movie is excellent and touching. It captures the struggle of a lower class person feeling totally lost and not belonging and her fight to find something better. The character as portrayed by Julie Walters (Rita) and Michael Caine are in depth and touching. I am surprised to find that there is nothing on this website about Ms. Walters or the author Willy Russell. Knowing the story is autobiographical makes it all the more interesting.
