ABSTRACT Western civilization in the late 2020s stands mired in a hellish predicament, with the fascistic United Kingdom remaining as the last fortress of stability in a European continent ravaged by the plague-like "St. Mary's Virus". Norsefire, the Nazi-esque party in charge of affairs, rules Britannia with an iron fist under the leadership of High Chancellor Adam Sutler, imprisoning "undesirables" on the regular and curtailing any and all personal freedoms cherished in liberal societies as they see fit. Enter "V", a freedom fighter adorned with a Guy Fawkes mask who sets out on a quest against long odds to bring down Norsefire's hegemony, soon bringing political prisoner Evey into the fold as he seeks to perform various acts of terror with a view to promoting freedom.
