Star-crossed lovers from rival families of Verona are secretly married, and then Juliet is betrothed to another by her father, unaware of her marriage. The two youths are played by teenagers, as the playwright intended. Best of the three Zeffirelli Shakespearean features, and certainly the best rendering of Romeo and Juliet ever filmed.
