ABSTRACT
Matt King, a Hawaii lawyer and overseer of a high-value and prestigious trust containing 25,000 acres of undeveloped land in Kauai, is looking to sell his parcel before the trust expires due to the common-law rule against perpetuities. Just as Matt is about to reach an agreement amongst family members to sell the land to a developer for a massive profit, however, his wife is seriously injured in a boating accident, forcing him into a situation where he must work to forge stronger dies with his troubled daughters in the absence of their mother whilst attempting to clear their land's sale. Won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay; nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Editing.
