ABSTRACT
Conrad and Sally Walden are the children of overworked single mother Joan, living in the town of Anville. Conrad resents their mother's boyfriend, as he appears determined to ship him off to military school. Joan is called into work one day, leaving the children in the care of a babysitter; they discover a talking cat sporting an oversized hat soon after she leaves, ultimately whisked away into a world of mischief and wonder limited only by the fun-loving cat's imagination. More or less an unqualified disaster; Audrey Geisel vowed to forbid any future live-action adaptations of her late husband's works.
