ABSTRACT
Halvard Solness is a successful architect more concerned with his career than being a halfway decent human, treating virtually everyone in his life -- his wife, mistresses, and associates who may or may not wish to usurp his legacy -- with abuse and scorn. The arrival of young Hilde Wangel into Halvard's life brings the aging misanthrope to the edge; promised the world by Halvard during a taboo tryst years earlier, her presence forces the old man to confront his mortality.
