Twins condition themselves to survive World War II's waning days in Hungary.

ABSTRACT
Two thirteen-year old twin boys are left to live with their miserable grandmother in Hungary near the end of World War II. Confused and distraught over their abrupt transition from privilege to squalor, the pair resolve to survive their new surroundings by "freeing" themselves from emotion and immersing one another in education, keeping a notebook of things they have witnessed during the war as their adopted disposition produces a depressing final act after the war ends.
