Kurosawa's masterpiece; one of the most influential films ever produced. It inspired the Spaghetti Western A Fistful of Dollars (1964), though Yojimbo itself isn't wholly original; it used as a rough framework Dashiell Hammett's gangster novel Red Harvest as well as The Glass Key (1942), which Kurosawa admits. Received an Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design.
