A Stranger Among Us (17-Jul-1992)
Director: Sidney Lumet Writer: Robert J. Avrech Music: Jerry Bock Producers: Steve Golin; Howard Rosenman; Sigurjon Sighvatsson Keywords: Crime, Jewish, Undercover Cops Hasidic diamond merchant Yaakov Klausman disappears from the Williamsburg district of Brooklyn with $720,000 in diamonds, though from the nature of his character it is most likely he has been killed for the loot and not absconded. Blonde, hard-nosed NYPD Detective Emily Eden is assigned to his case; she goes undercover as a Hasid. Melanie Griffith is so utterly miscast here one must question the very sanity of the producers.
