Springfield Rifle (22-Oct-1952)

Director: Andrι de Toth Writers: Frank Davis; Sloan Nibley; Charles Marquis Warren Music by: Max Steiner Producer: Louis F. Edelman Keywords: Western, Civil War, Espionage Horses are being repeatedly diverted from the Union Army to the Confederacy, enough so that it is clearly an inside job. Gary Cooper plays Maj. Lex Kearney, who has himself cashiered from the Army for cowardice so that he might infiltrate the raiders to undercover the spy. The title of the film is almost incidental; the new repeating rifle is introduced toward the end.
