ABSTRACT
1765, Louis XV-era France: A mysterious beast described by witnesses as larger than any common wolf terrorizes the French province of Gevaudan, killing hundreds and leaving authorities confounded. Knight-cum-taxidermist Gregoire de Fronsac and Iroquois companion Mani are tasked with pacifying the vicious beast, traversing a path fraught with mystery, peril, and Mani's unfortunate death in the course of attempting to catch a villainous creature.
