Biography of German-American first baseman Lou Gehrig, who played 16 seasons for the New York Yankees, setting a record of 2130 consecutive games which remained unbroken until 1995. Gehrig died in 1939 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig's Disease, not long after giving his farewell speech. Emotionally powerful film. Won an Oscar for Best Editing; received 10 additional nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor and Actress, Best Original Story, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Score.
