ABSTRACT
Emil Kovac, an ex-Serbian paramilitary fighter, meets an informant who dispatches him on a mission to gather information on an aging man named Benjamin Ford. Ford, an ex-NATO operative who retreated to a sheltered existence deep in the Appalachian Mountains of northern Georgia after the events of the war to forget the conflict he fought in, forms an unlikely friendship with Kovac when the man poses as a European tourist, a fragile bond that threatens to turn deadly when Kovac ultimately unmasks his true identity.
