An Indian man descends into a life of addiction after traditionalism ends his romance with the woman of his dreams.
Adapted from the classic Bengali novel of the same name, Devdas tells the tale of Devdas Mukherji, a man driven into a life of vice when forces beyond his control end his special bond with the woman of his dreams. From a young age, Devdas, progeny of an aristocratic family, maintained a bond with playmate Paro that would blossom into romance as they grew older; time spent studying in London proves to be his undoing, however, as a marriage proposal upon arriving back in India is rejected by his father, changing him into a stunted man whose pain sees him heading towards drugs and an unsatisfactory relationship with another woman.
