From a young age, Devdas, progeny of an aristocratic family, maintained a bond with playmate Paro that would blossom into romance as they grew older; time spent studying in London proves to be his undoing, however, as a marriage proposal upon arriving back in India is rejected by his father, changing him into a stunted man whose pain sees him heading towards drugs and an unsatisfactory relationship with another woman.
